We’re Trippin’ in Nottingham!

We roll out stuff every day here, sometimes quietly and sometimes not. Maybe we’re updating category icons and just keeping it to ourselves as a little surprise for you to find, or maybe we’re tweeting about it cos it’s too awesome to not mention (Fallingwater, anyone?).

Nottingham Championship Chase on Gowalla
Today’s release is a big one, not really because of what it is, but because of what it represents: The Nottingham Championship Chase is not just our latest trip, but it’s also our very first “international” trip. Big props to Lee Nixon for taking the time to create the spots and scribble out the cool descriptions for the spots and the trip itself. Thanks! A 3-spot trip isn’t a game-changer, but this particular trip means a couple of things for people who love Gowalla:

You can take Gowalla anywhere.

Wherever you go, at least any place that’s got a network signal and GPS, you can take Gowalla with you and use it to discover, to explore, to share, and to leave your own mark at the places see along the way. Big city or small town, the metro area or the rural area, Chicago or Peoria, London or Nottingham, as long as the network is there, you’re good to Gowalla. You don’t have to be in a major town, and you don’t have to even be in the U.S., as this trip evidences.

You don’t just take trips, you make trips.

We love Lee Nixon, but he’s not a special-use-case. He simply had a great idea for a trip and shared it with us. We sewed it together on the back side, popped it into the queue, and a while later, it came out ready for all of Gowalladom. You may have noticed there’s currently no way on the app or website for you to build a trip. We’ve noticed that, too, and well, we’re working on it. In the meantime, if you have an idea for a trip, do what Lee did and let us know. For starters, make sure all the spots are created that you want to be included in the trip and that most (if not all) of them have descriptions (at least the ones you yourself created). Then write a description for the trip and a catchy title, if you’ve got one. Put this all in an email (spot names/urls, trip name and description) and shoot us an line at live {at] gowalla dot com. We’ll take a look-see and most likely, put it together and add it to the queue! Fame and glory will be yours, and we will definitely credit you as the trip creator when it goes live. A number of folks have suggested trips which we’ve already made, including: ...and they all got groovy custom Pins! Several more traveler-created trips (both in and out of the US) are already in the queue. We welcome your trip ideas, and look forward to hearing them! Ending thoughts? We’re kinda busy at the moment, working to make Gowalla an exciting part of your world, and all of it at that, not just the spots we pick or the trips we make or the cities we predetermine, but everywhere your life takes you. Today’s trip rollout is just an example of some of the awesomeness to come. We certainly haven’t forgotten that you’re in this thing with us, be it making a cool new spot, discovering some place a friend recommended, or coming up with your own trip idea. You can bombard us with those groovy trips (or any other sweet ideas you have) at live {at] gowalla dot com. …we’re looking forward to it, in fact!
