You’ve been in this situation before.  You are in a different part of town or a new city and you’re hungry or want a drink.  You have two options: go to a chain that is sort of lame but guaranteed not to be completely nasty or take a risk that some local place is actually decent.

That’s where Goodfoot comes in.  Goodfoot is an application (as well as a very gentle yeti apparently) that was built using the Gowalla API.  It’s great for those moments when you don’t have a ton of time to plan out your itinerary.

What makes Goodfoot awesome?

1.) It shows you places that are within walking, biking and driving distance.  Since you are looking for something cool, it takes out all the major chains around you as well as regular spots like gas stations, doctors’ offices, etc.

2.) After you’ve selected a spot, it shows you the Gowalla highlights left there.  If a certain place is marked “date night” or “burgers we love”, you’ll know within seconds if it’s the place for you.

3.) The Awesometer tells you how frequently people check into that spot.  If the Awesometer is high, it’s a place that is visited frequently.
