The Biggest Wedding of All Time to Take Place This Friday

On 29 July, 1981, Diana Spencer married Prince Charles in St. Paul’s Cathedral.  600,000 people poured in the streets of London to watch or at least take part of the celebration and it was televised to over 750 million people.

This Friday, history will be made again when Prince William marries Catherine Middleton at Westminister Abbey.  A crowd of 1.5 million people, or roughly the population of Philadelphia, is expected to flood the streets of London to take part. There aren’t just TV cameras this time though. This is the first royal wedding to be streamed on its own YouTube channel for billions of people to watch around the world, even on their cell phones.

Gowalla appreciates that this event is special to many Brits and non-Brits alike, so we’ve created both a special stamp and a pin to commemorate it.  If you happen to be in London this Friday, check in to receive the stamp and be sure to take cool pictures!  We love London and will visit again soon.

Wherever you find yourself enjoying the big event on Friday, just check in and mention “Royal Wedding” to get your own Royal Wedding Pin. Enjoy the festivities!
