One for One in Argentina
While hundreds of pairs of TOMS Shoes are beginning to find their way onto the feet of our winners who discovered them with Gowalla, this mission is far from over. On Wednesday Andy and I, along with our grand prize winner Minara, will join up with the folks from TOMS to head south to Argentina.
We will be journeying to the province of Misiones where we’ll be delivering shoes to children who live in several remote villages there. This trip will include the delivery of the one millionth pair of shoes by TOMS. If you’re not familiar with TOMS shoes’ mission, you simply need to take 5 minutes to read about their remarkable One for One movement.
In short, Andy and I are honored to be a part of the trip.
We started hacking on Gowalla nearly two years ago with the mission to inspire people everywhere to discover the extraordinary in the world — whether that is a cafe down the street or a mountaintop on the other side of the globe. I have no doubt this trip will open our eyes to a new, amazing world filled with incredible people.
Given our limited access to all things internet, we’re going to do our best to post stories and photos to this blog and Twitter, but the updates may be sporadic at best. I will be bringing my SPOT GPS messenger in order to post our check-ins via satellite back to Gowalla. If the experiment works, we may open up support for GPS devices like SPOT to everyone.
A big thank you to everyone who checked in on behalf of the TOMS + AT&T campaign. Thousands of you are now involved in making this event possible. We’ll look forward to keeping you posted over the next week.
